Blue Cheese shows maturity in fifth win

-

THE SECOND round of the Boyle Sport Enniscorthy Leger featured on Thursday night’s card at Enniscorthy dog track.

The Paul Whelan (Enniscorthy)-owned Blue Cheese has matured nicely and recorded his fifth straight win. Delivering the fastest time of the second round, he took heat four by a clear four lengths margin in a good 30.30 -30 slow.

The first round of the Kingsmill Kennels A3 Tri-distance also got under way over 550 yards, and fastest of the four heats was in heat one as the Karol Ramsbottom-trained Sober Escape was a clearcut winner in a good 30.39 -30 slow.

On the Monday night ,the second round of the future champion unraced stake continued along with the plate, but there was disappointment with far too many four-dog races.

Confusion reigned too as there were two heats of the plate, then the champion unraced itself, then two more heats of the plate, before the final two heats of the champion unraced. I don’t know what the thinking was behind this format.

There was a couple of superb runs recorded, as the Paul Hennessy-trained Jaytee Hornet set the pace when having to hold the challenge of Ballymac Kingdom, with only a head between them at the line in a fast 28.84 -30 slow.

Réalt Rabach, owned by the great Micheál O Muircheartaigh, got up to catch Soldier Spy close home by a neck in 28.97 -30 slow in heat one.

The star performance in the plate was that of Piercestown Rena who ran away with heat one, racing home seven lengths clear in a fast 28.96 -30 slow.

All the stakes are building to a huge night of racing on the upcoming bank holiday Monday night, with all finals taking place along with supporting opens to boot. Enniscorthy is the place to be for a great night’s racing for sure.
