A large crowd gathered in Meánscoil Gharman last week for the school’s annual open night.

The event took place on Wednesday and students in the school led prospective new students and their parents on tours around the facility.

Pupils from neighbouring primary schools got to experience everything Meánscoil Gharman has to offer.

The visitors were also treated to music performances from some of the Meánscoil Gharman students as prepared for their annual Scléip competition.

Students from the English and Irish departments held debates following their recent success in the Concern and Uí Chadhain competitions while the English debating team were busy preparing their next debate having been very successful in the regional qualifiers last week.

Mouth-watering aromas wafted around the school from the Home Economics room to the main hall.

Highlighting the wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities in the school the BT winners were encouraging budding scientists to participate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths].

‘We aim to foster the promotion of science and encourage independent research and critical thinking where students can explore areas of interest,’ school Principal, Norah Harpur, told the visitors.

Art is a very popular subject in the school and the students proudly displayed some of their work in the school which, in addition to being one of the finest historical buildings in the town, was also the former home to renowned artist, Eileen Gray.

French students in the school will be going on a work experience trip to Nantes this week and in preparation for that they were delighted to showcase their skills to the visitors.

They played games with the visiting pupils such as Kahoot and Quizlet, to test their French skills, while Spanish students talked about their recent student exchange with Vega del Turia, in Teruel.
