Askamore BALLYELLIS NS SPLIT-THE-POT

winner of split-the-pot on Friday, October 18, is Stephen and Aobha Lancaster, The Burrow, Ballyellis – winning €194. We thank everyone for supporting split-the-pot. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any parent and from Ashling Walsh after Sunday Mass in Askamore Church.

ART EXHIBITION

This year’s exhibition will once again be in November. The preview evening will be on Thursday, November 14, and from 15th to the 18th the exhibition is open to the public. The prime aim remains the encouragem­ent of the artists of Askamore and this year we are opening the exhibition up to include artists from the wider community. HOLLYWOOD IS HERE.

Get your tickets for the biggest night of the year. October 26, the Amber Springs is the place to be, to check out all our local movie stars. Brilliant talent, great fun and fantastic spirit – don’t miss it. Parental discretion is advised as some movies have adult content. Tickets at €20 each are available from any cast member.

BIODIVERSI­TY TALK

On Monday evening, November 11, Ms B Lacey will give a talk in Askamore Activity Centre on biodiversi­ty etc. And also on her plans to develop ‘The Soul Sanctuary’ in our area. This is a talk not to be missed as we all must educate ourselves and be proactive in matters relating to climate change, recycling and protecting our environmen­t for future generation­s.

FIRST AID COURSE

A first aid course will be held on Mondays November 25, December 2 and nine. This excellent certified course run by AMPM Safety and has proved very popular and worthwhile. Places are limited so get your name in and book your place. Phone 085 1817962.

COFFEE DOCK

The coffee dock is now open Monday to Friday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy a coffee/ tea/hot chocolate and biscuits for €2. Our new ‘state-of-the-art’ coffee machine (which takes €1 or €2 coins, self service) will guarantee the best cuppa coffee in the area. We have been asked to organise talks of interest to all ages, so if you have any topic you would like covered please let us know.

RURAL TRANSPORT

Local Link accepts Free Travel Pass or €3 each way/Gorey. Arrangemen­ts can be made to collect people from their own door along the route. Local Link will change from Thursday to Friday from July 19 next. Bus leaves Askamore Church car park Mondays at 9.30 a.m. approximat­ely arriving in Gorey 10 a.m. Bus departs Gorey at 12.30 p.m., departs Fridays at 9.45 a.m. Plenty of time to shop, meet friends and have a coffee. Boolavogue FORÓIGE HALLOWE’EN PARTY

Boolavogue’s Foróige club will be hosting a Hallowe’en Party for primary school and preschool children in Boolavogue Hall on Sunday next, October 27, from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. Entry only costs €3 per child or a maximum of €5 per family and as usual there will be prizes for the best costumes at the party.

COLÁISTE AN ÁTHA OPEN NIGHT

Coláiste an Átha in Kilmuckrid­ge will be hosting their annual open night this Thursday, October 24. All pupils in fifth. And sixth. class in Boolavogue and the surroundin­g areas are invited to attend along with their parents or guardians. The college will be open from 5.30 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. with current pupils showing off the school’s subject rooms and giving practical demonstrat­ions of the work they undertake. The principal, Ms Martin will speak to the parents and guardians in her Principal’s address at 6.45 p.m.

GAA NEWS

On Wednesday last, October 16, at 7.45 p.m., the under-15 hurlers took on St James’ in the Roinn one, shield hurling quarter final in Sat. Patrick’s park. Played under lights, the team put in a great effort and in the end triumphed by four points, scoring 2-10 to 1-9 from the opposition. This well deserved win sees them go on to meet Duffry Rovers in the semifinal.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD/EUCHARIST.

On Saturday, October 26, at the 8 p.m. Vigil Mass, Aodhagán Swords is due to read with Georgina Gahan helping distribute Communion. Rika O’Neill is the reader at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, October 27, and Dorothy Hall is on duty as Minister for the Eucharist.

There is a special meeting for the Ministers of the Word tonight, Tuesday, October 22, at 8.15 p.m., after the 7.30 p.m.

Mass. All readers are asked to attend if at all possible.

Camolin A CAMOLIN VERSION OF FAWLTY TOWERS

A rather hilarious version of Fawlty Towers has been created by Camolin Community Developmen­t Associatio­n and Camolin Celtic Soccer Club as a fundraiser for both groups, and will take to the stage on Friday, October 25, doors 8.30 p.m. for performanc­e at 9 p.m. in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey.

The performanc­e will be followed by a 70’s disco with DJ Mouse till late.

Tickets are on sale now at €10 and are available from the Ashdown Park Hotel, Jack’s Tavern, Carton’s Pit Stop Service Station, Somers Commercial­s Ltd and cast members.

POKER DRIVE

All are invited to a Poker drive on Friday November 1, in Jack’s Tavern, Camolin at 8.30 p.m., a fundraiser for Clonee Strictly Dancing. Entry costs €20.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot; winning numbers were 12, 17, 18 and 21. Two matched three numbers to each receive €75: Olive and Evelyn, Bridie Earle.

Carnew RINGS TOURNAMENT

ROAD RUN

Coolgreany Vintage Club and the Gap Vintage Club have organised a Road Run all vehicles welcome on Sunday, October 27, all vehicles welcome – registrati­on starts 11 a.m. run starts midday, Coolgreany Village. €20 Entry refreshmen­ts provided after event in the Coolgreany Inn.

The Tinahely and Carnew Union of parishes annual Bazaar will be held on Friday, October 25, at 7 p.m. in Coláiste Bhríde, Carnew, with the usual stalls cakes, lucky dips, Brice a brac, raffles, tea and more. All proceeds towards the parish funds, all welcome.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS APPEAL

Reminder to please return your Christmas Lights Donation Envelope to Carnew Training and Developmen­t Centre as soon as you can. We will appreciate any donation, however big or small. The main thing is that everyone knows that we have to raise money to light up the street for Christmas, unfortunat­ely we are only starting out again and we need a lot of money to replace the old stock of lights – bit by bit we can get there but it is going to take time and money. Thank you for your support.

The next bingo in St Bridget’s Hall, Carnew is on Sunday, November 3, and 17 all money raised will go towards the hall renovation fund, thanks to everyone for their support to date it is greatly appreciate­d.

BOWLING CLUB

Ferns Bowling Club have bought 16 new jerseys at €15 each costing €240 in total. They are in red and white, the Ferns colours.

The club is also purchasing a new mat, bowls and a jack costing €1,400.

Ferns Bowling Club would like to thank Pat Nolan (chairman), John Francis (treasurer) and Ray Fick (secretary) for all their work in all the above ventures.

The Ferns Parish Variety Concert 2019 will be held on November 6 next in St Aidan’s Church, Ferns. Featuring Olivia Douglas, Dave Lawlor and Theresa and the Stars. Admission €10 with door prize on the night. Tickets now available from the parish office and door to door in the coming weeks. All proceeds in aid of Ferns Parochial Funds.
