Delayed Intermediate semi-final Sunday
THE LONG-DELAYED replay of the Amber Springs/Ashdown Park Hotels Intermediate football championship semi-final will go ahead this Sunday, 24 hours after the county was due to have a title winner ready to play Kilkenny Senior victors Mullinavat in the AIB Leinster Club championship.
St. Mary’s (Maudlintown) haven’t played a competitive game since their 3-9 to 2-12 draw with HWH-Bunclody in Bellefield on September 28, whereas their opponents have been focused on hurling and will be trying to atone for the disappointment of last Sunday’s Intermediate final defeat to Cloughbawn.
Waiting patiently in the wings are Crossabeg-Ballymurn, who qualified for the final on October 11 with their one-point re-fixture win over Naomh Eanna after extra-time.
The decider has been pencilled in for Saturday, November 9, and it’s the sole outstanding adult final at this stage.
On the Under-20 front, there’s one hurling competition yet to be completed, and progress won’t be made until HWH-Bunclody are finished playing Intermediate football.
That’s because they form one-half of the Na Fianna group team, along with Davidstown-Courtnacuddy, who are set to face St. Anne’s in the Premier ‘B’ semi-final, with Hollow Rovers waiting in the wings for the decider.
Next Saturday will see eight games in total in the Greenstar Under-20 football championship, while three of our county title winners will be in action in the province.
Cloughbawn have a home venue (not announced before we went to press) for their Intermediate hurling quarter-final against Naas, the Kildare Senior champions.
Ballygarrett, the Intermediate ‘A’ victors, will be on the road to a location to be announced in Carlow for their Junior quarter-final clash with Naomh Bríd, while a south Kilkenny venue is expected for Rathgarogue-Cushinstown’s Junior football first round game against Mooncoin, their county Intermediate winners.
