READERS REACH FOR THE SKY IN OUR FIREWORKS COMPETITION
AS THE Wexford skyline exploded with colour on the opening night of the Wexford Festival Opera, hundreds of eager snap-happy readers were capturing the moment for our photo competition.
The standard was, once again, incredibly high as the small selection of entries printed on these three pages clearly show.
For some, the quayfront provided the ideal backdrop, for others it was the multicoloured reflections in the harbour. There were many close-up images as well, as the fireworks created pictures in light reminiscent of abstract paintings.
And our entries were not confined to adults either, as photographers as young as 13, such as Bobby-Joe Pitt, showed a keen eye for photography.
But there could be only one winner and after much deliberations among our judges, the winningning entry was deemed to be Nadia Michnik, who brilliantly captured the Wexford skyline in all its multi-coloured glory.
Nadia’s superb photo encapsulates all that is great about Wexford town on fireworks night, and the image would certainly not look out of place on a tourism campaign for the town.
Special mention must also go to our two runners-up this year, Declan Roche and Jack Higgins. Declan’s was taken from the view of the spectator on the quay and offers a truly atmospheric take on the night.
Jack’s entry, with a subtle silhouette of a couple of spectators, was also worthy of a runners-up spot.
So congratulations to our winner, Nadia Michnik, who claims our €100 top prize, and our two runners-up, Declan Roche and Jack Higging, who come away with €50 each.
Thanks to everyone who went to the trouble of entering and sharing their view of a very special night in the Wexford calendar.
