Wonderful Wexford celebrated at launch of new online portal
THE opening night of Wexford Opera Festival with its annual fireworks display provided an exciting backdrop to the launch of wexford.ie, a new online guide to County Wexford and everything it has to offer.
The website, managed by Wexford County Council, has been designed to promote Wexford nationally and internationally among those who wish to reside, visit or invest here.
It contains comprehensive information and stunning visuals, highlighting the county’s attractiveness for living, leisure and business.
The online platform guides users to sister sites including visitwexford.ie, investwexford. ie and wexfordcoco.ie which offer detailed information about visiting Wexford, doing business here and accessing local authority services.
The Spiegeltent was the venue for the official launch of the portal, performed by chairman of Wexford County Council Michael Sheehan who spoke about Wexford’s major attractions and advantages and encouraged the audience to spread the word about wexford.ie across social media.
He asked families to promote the site among members of the Wexford diaspora around the world – proud men and women who have a strong sense of identity and place.
Among the keynote speakers was the US-based Wexford ambassador Michael Londra who promotes Wexford in America every chance that he gets.
Speaking about his love for the town he grew up in, he said: ‘For me, there is nowhere like Wexford, it has a quality that very few towns possess’.
Michael was being filmed for a Tourism Ireland promotion which included a recording of him singing upstairs in Mackens bar.
Wexford businessman and legendary Wexford All-Ireland hurling coach of 1996, Liam Griffin, the owner of Monart Hotel and Spa, also spoke about his passion for Wexford, recalling his father’s advice to ‘make a difference in your own place’.
Afterwards, guests left the Spiegeltent to enjoy the fireworks display on a night that proved the point about Wexford being a very special place.
