Glynn-Barntown never looked back after goals

GLYNN-BARNTOWN 4-12

OLI/ST. FINTAN’S 0-8

THREE FIRST-HALF goals fired Glynn-Barntown to a comprehensive victory over Our Lady’s Island/St. Fintan’s in this one-sided Greenstar Under-20 football Premier championship clash in Killurin on Saturday.

Played in wet and windy conditions, it was difficult for either side to gain much ground in the opening exchanges, with the teams level on two points apiece at the end of the opening quarter.

Conor Mahoney and Dylan Lyne opening the account for Glynn-Barntown, with Cian Meyler and Jamie Sinnott doing the honours for the visitors.

But after threatening on a number of occasions, the eventual winners soon hit the net in rapid succession which, even at that early stage, looked as if it would be a pivotal point in play.

Their first came from Michael Laffan after he got on the end of an excellently placed ball from Cormac Cooney, 30 seconds before Jack Brazill raced through for their second, leaving the south county side with it all to do.

And even though they replied with a Jack O’Leary point, the game was put further out of his side’s reach when a misplaced pass saw Conor Mahoney gain possession with an open goal at his mercy, and he made no mistake in putting his side nine points clear.

Another O’Leary point was outdone by efforts from Brazill and Cooney to leave it a ten-point game at half-time, a lead which was going to be next to impossible to reduce given the conditions.

And things didn’t get any better for the visitors, as Cooney and Cormac Rowe hit quick points before Cooney added his side’s fourth goal seven minutes after the re-start which was the final nail in the coffin.

Glynn-Barntown didn’t ease up either and struck the next four scores from Shane Doyle, Jack Brazill, and two from the impressive Cooney before the opposition improved their side of the scoreboard with points from Jack O’Leary, Adam Devereux, Liam Crowley and Dean Corish.
