NEW ROSS SENIORS

-

In racing parlance, the going last Thursday could be termed yielding to soft, leading to rather tough conditions for our weekly outing.

A steady drizzle kept coming down all day, but thankfully the heavy rains held off until after golf.

Scoring was not easy, even with winter rules in operation and little or no run on the ball. Some perfectly executed shots still landed well short of the ‘dance floor’, with the aprons of the green proving their undoing.

As usual each Thursday after the draw, the talk is all about the so-called dream team and how they might succeed or falter on the day. This time around, the dream team delivered the goods in style. Making light of the conditions, they put in an excellent final score of 95 points.

Captained by Jimmy Furlong (13), and backed up by team members Willie Whitty (20), Richie Aylward (20) and Jim Kehoe (25), they took the honours.

Second on 90 points were Eamon Delaney (17), Michael Gannon (18), Liam Glasheen (20) and Frank Boyle (23). Third prize with 87 points went to Francie Coghlan (16), Dickie O’Neill (19), Seán O hUginn (23) and Jamesie Murphy (24).

No nearest the pin prizes were won as no one got near the pin on both the ninth and eleventh holes where the pin was in a tough location.

On the draw board for November are Denis Kirwan, Willie Whitty and Martin Burke.

Once again, a reminder that all players should be in house by 9.30 a.m. at the latest for the team draw at 9.40 a.m.

We will hold our A.G.M. on Thursday, November 28, and our Christmas outing and dinner on December 5 (weather permitting).
