Gorey on form for Sound Town final

-

JUDGES will have their eyes on Gorey this as Gorey has made it to the final of Ireland’s Sound Town competition, being one of just six towns nationwide.

If Gorey is to come out on top and be named as the soundest town in Ireland for 2019, a chosen charity will be given €10,000.

Nevan Riley from South East Digital, which is based in Gorey’s Hatch Lab, originally nominated Gorey for the award earlier this year which saw Gorey become Today FM’s ‘sound town of the month’ in May.

Nevan chose St Aidan’s Services for this and he hopes this will add to the ongoing efforts of the Gorey Oscarz effort.

‘We are hopeful for Gorey as the €10,000 would mean a great deal to St Aidan’s Service and would go a long way to helping the fundraising effort,’ he said.

In July, Today FM radio presenters came to visit North Wexford to talk about Gorey with some budding locals and also present them with the Sound town plaque.

The team also came together to create a promotional video which captures the sights and sounds of Gorey.

Other towns in the final include Strandhill, Sligo, Mountrath in Laois, Graiguenamanagh in Kilkenny, Bantry in Cork and Fartown in Galway.

Both the main prize of Ireland’s Soundest Town and monthly prize winners will be picked by presenter Alison Curtis and two Today FM team members and Gorey was short listed from hundreds of entries.

The overall winner will be announced on Saturday, November 9 on Weekend Breakfast with Alison Curtis on Today FM and there will be an outdoor broadcast from the winning town on Saturday, November 16.
