THE Prince of Wales has officially opened Monart Spa Poundbury, a new flagship business in the UK operated by the Griffin Group which operates Monart Destination Spa in Enniscorthy.
At the opening ceremony in the UK the Estate Director of the Duchy of Cornwall, Ben Murphy, described the new business as ‘the jewel in the crown’ of Queen Mother Square which the central hub and heart of Poundbury, in Dorset.
Wexford based architect, Stephen Carr, and his team created sumptuous surroundings, premium furnishings and beautiful décor to give the spa, set in the Royal Pavillion of Queen Mother Square, a bespoke feel. The construction and fit-out work was carried out by UK building firm, CG Fry & Son.
The multi-million-pound luxury spa is the first foray into the UK market for Monart Destination Spa, Ireland, which is owned by brothers, Michael and Liam Anthony Griffin.
The development of the new facility in Poundbury was carried out with the same ethos in mind that has made the Enniscorthy business one of the most popular destination spas in the country.
Monart Spa - Poundbury offers guests access to one of the finest thermal suites in the UK which includes a hydrotherapy pool and state-of-the-art thermal spaces incorporating a sanarium, caldarium, sauna, salt grotto, infrared pro cabin, aroma steam room and unique showers.
A significant aspect of the business is that it’s open to everyone with no membership required.
Speaking about the opening Liam Griffin said that despite the experience that he and his brother have in running a destination spa the facility in Poundbury is a new departure for them: ‘We are highly experienced at running a destination spa with accommodation but this is a new concept, a luxury day spa set in the Heart of HRH The Prince of Wales Poundbury estate.’
He also said the great elements of Monart have been incorporated into the design for the UK facility.
‘We believe we have taken all the great elements that make a ‘Monart’ spa and brought them together to deliver a product and service that can compete with the best there is in the UK,’ he said.
His brother Michael said the new facility will focus on ‘creating an environment of pure relaxation’ where at the centre of which will be the overall well-being of clients.
