Prizes given to Enniscorth­y’s Tidy Towns winners

THERE was great excitement in Enniscorth­y recently when the local Tidy Towns organisati­on presented its annual awards.

A lot of hard work and commitment goes into community work around the town and district each year from people who are interested in and passionate about making Enniscorth­y a better place to live and work.

The town and district did well in this year’s national awards scheme with increased points being awarded in many different areas.

That was replicated in the town at local level and the awards presentati­on ceremony gave the local committee a chance to praise local people for their efforts.

A number of awards were handed out on the day including: Public Buildings - Enniscorth­y Credit Union; Shop Fronts - Petite Cherie; Business Premises - Darcy’s Blinds and Interiors; Most Improve Premises - Maxol Service Station, Bellefield Road; New Developmen­t - Orchard Peace Park; Housing Estates - Beech Avenue, the Paddock, Patrick Keane, 6 Beech Avenue; Community Award - Barleyfiel­d, (Tom Cullen, Barleyfiel­d); Landscape Award - Slaney View Park (Larry Dunbar, 25 Slaney View Park); Endeavour Award - The Rectory Field; Billy Dagg, 10 Fr Murphy Park; Michael Kennedy, 1 Rectory Field; Rose Garden - Neil Carty, 16 Drumgoold Villas; Large Gardens - Agnes Allen, Westcliffe House (1st) and Sheelagh O’Leary, The Moyne (highly commended); Medium Gardens - Mary Priestly, 5 Kilagoley Tce (1st) and John Somers, 4 Kilagoley Tce (highly commended); Small Gardens - Anne Hendrick, 3 Fr Murphy Park (1st) and Margaret Walker, 26 Bellefield Road (highly commended); Overall Garden - Bernie Colgan, 29 Cherryorch­ard Heights; Previous Garden Winner - May and Jim Wilson, 5 Urrin Valley; Container Garden - John & May Carroll, 11 Droim Catha (1st) and Marie Carroll, 24 Slaney View Park (highly commended); Hanging Baskets - Rosie O’Sullivan, 2 St Aidan’s Villas (1st) and Joe Breen, 16 Duffry Gate (highly commended); Commercial Premises Hanging Baskets - Stamps Public House, Market Square and Reids Off-Licence, 11 Main Street ( joint winners).

All of the winners were praised for their efforts.
