Football the winner as Wexford development girls travel to London

-

THE LONDON County Board were hosts to a girls’ development blitz which was held at the Tir Chonaill Gaels grounds in Greenford recently.

Thirty-nine girls consisting of two teams, Purple and Gold from Wexford, along with Herefordshire and London played their games in inclement wet conditions but thoroughly enjoyed the action.

The four teams played two games each, demonstrating some fantastic skills and rekindling the friendships made back in March this year when London made a trip to play in the Breda Curran Memorial development day in Wexford.

They had an amazing time as it was the first trip for many of the Wexford girls to London, and hopefully the link will continue to enable and encourage the development of Gaelic football.

Presentations were made, with each girl going home with a medal and each county receiving a beautiful trophy for what was a memorable day for all.

Thanks to referees John Doyle and John Reape for their officiating, and to all the London parents who provided breakfast and lunch at the games for all to enjoy.

A big thanks to Micheál Reynolds from Hertfordshire and to Wexford’s manager Enda McDonald and his team of mentors, namely Dave Coady, Nicola Sinnott, Joe Nacey, Ken Rawson, John Quirke, Paul Doyle, Lisa Bennett and Gemma Rossister who all travelled over with the 39 children.

Thanks to London Chairperson Lucia Butler (a native of Clongeen), Development Officer Colleen Lynott, and Children’s Officer Marie Tighe, and to all of the officers of London Ladies’ Board for their hard work and support throughout the year.

Tir Chonaill Gaels always support us by allowing our games to be played on their grounds throughout the season, so a big thanks must go out to them.

The future is certainly looking bright for our future young Gaels both in Wexford and London.
