Classy Clare shows fine form to edge out Jaytee Spirit on line

AFTER THE biggest race night of the year over the bank holiday, things were a little more back to normal at Enniscorthy dog track last week, but some good performances of note were produced on both nights.

On Monday, race one saw a convincing win for Ballinclare Enda who raced to a clearcut six lengths victory for Eilish McCann (Gorey) in a good time of 29.37 -30 slow, the quickest run of the night.

On Thursday, the classy Clares Tavern - a recent finalist in the leger - took race five, the open 550.

She came out well from the traps this time but was passed down the back by Jaytee Spirit who looked to have taken her measure.

However, Clares is nothing if not game and she was closing down the gap inch by inch as they headed for the judge.

The longer run-in of the 550 yards was playing to her strength, and she got up in the shadow of the line to grab the money by the minimum distance to record her eighth win from 16 starts for Clare Owens, Co. Wicklow.

She is a very nice bitch to own, and there should be more good nights ahead for this lady also.

The last unraced stake of the year is due to start next week, and how quickly the year has passed again as it seemed only a short time ago when we were looking forward to the first unraced of 2019.
