-

1 HOWIE THE ROOKIE: As part of a nationwide tour Enniscorthy actor, Fintan Kelly, will return to the model county for his performance in Stagemad Theatre Company’s beautiful version of ‘Howie The Rookie’ in the Presentation Centre, Enniscorthy, on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16. The play, by Mark O’Rowe, has had a hugely successful nationwide run and Kelly is delighted to be returning to his native county. The play is directed by James Power who is also looking forward to bringing the show back to the south east. Fintan Kelly is fast becoming one of the most talked about actors on the contemporary Irish theatre and film industry scene. His performance in Howie the Rookie coincides with roles in feature films and series including ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Krypton’ and ‘Darklands’. ‘Howie the Rookie’ has been described as a hilarious, pimp-rolling, blood-soaked performance that displays Shakespeare’s integrity, Marlow’s viciousness and a cowboy’s jangling gait. Tickets for the show, priced €15, are now available from the Presentation Centre box-office on 053 9233000.

2 SPORTS AND WAR IN WEXFORD: On Tuesday, a talk called Sport and War in County Wexford, 1912-1921 with Dr Paul Rouse takes place at 7 p.m. in New Ross Library. This talk will examine the complexities, contradictions and compromises of how people behave in time of war. It will look at the choices and actions of individuals when identity and political allegiances were manifest in sport and will assess the importance of the GAA in the making of a revolution and the conflict between those who played GAA and those who played so-called ‘foreign games’. It will also consider the importance of sport as a thing of pleasure, and not of politics. Booking is on 051 421877.
