GAA NOTES

Unfortunately the under-15 footballers fell at the final hurdle in what was a very brilliant performance against a very strong St Mary’s team by two points. The lads fell behind on a number of occasions but never gave up much like the semi-final and nearly snuck it in the end.

We were 1-2 to no score down before we got our first goal, Jimmy Whelan making the break through. Marys though were five up at the half time whistle. This team though has brilliant resilience and amazingly were level with just three minutes gone, the hero of the semi-final Jamie Lambert getting the goal. Marys started to pile on the pressure and goaled again with 10 minutes gone. Yet again our lads wouldn’t lie down and 10 minutes left we were five down but Eugene soloed through the heart of the defence to slot low to the bottom corner. Joe Rossiter caught the kick out and pointed to leave just a minimum between the sides. Rosslare moved that out to two with just a few minutes left before we were unlucky in the dying seconds when a through ball to Jimmy Whelan creeped just that bit too far and was under pressure kicking along the ground but his goal bound shot was cleared off the line.

So the lads lost out but really they have a great never say die attitude and I’m sure a trophy lies just around the corner for this bunch.

The adult club AGM takes place on Sunday, November 24, at midday in the parish hall. Nomination forms will be out to club members shortly.

The indoor arena is currently available for booking for the winter. Contact Lar Leacy to book 087 9162609.
