Vintage club to light up the night

- By BRENDAN KEANE

OYLEGATE Vintage Club will be holding a ‘ light up the night’ road run on Saturday, December 7.

The run will leave the village at 6 p.m. sharp and the convoy of vehicles will stop at the Promenade in Enniscorthy at 6.30 p.m.

A spokesperson for the club told this newspaper that last year’s event proved very popular and said it should be ‘quite a spectacle’ for onlookers as the tractors, lorries and cars will be decked out with Christmas lights.

‘It is really a fun event for all the family and all funds raised through bucket collections, vehicle entry fees, and donations will go to Pieta House,’ said the spokesperson.

‘Vehicles must be registered at the community centre in Oylegate from 4 p.m. onwards and there will be some light refreshments available ahead of the event starting.

It’s expected there will be also be carol singers in attendance at the start.

There will be a number of viewing points along the route in Oylegate village and while a small number of vehicles will be going down through the town the main viewing area in Enniscorthy will be the Promenade.

When the convoy returns to Oyelgate there will be a hot meal provided in the community centre for all of those involved.

There will also be spot prizes up for grabs.

Last year’s ‘ light up the night’ run raised €10,657 for Pieta House and the organisers are hoping this year’s run will be even more successful.

Olive Ruane, from Pieta House, said highlighted that event such as this are vital for the ongoing provision of services in Pieta House which includes crisis counselling to those in suicidal distress, those engaging in self-harm, and those who are bereaved by suicide. ‘All Pieta services are free [and] our staff are fully qualified,’ she said.

‘We have over 270 therapists that provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service,’ she added.

‘Over 80 per cent of Pieta House’s income comes from public fundraising events which is why the Oylegate ‘Light Up the Night’ road run contributions are so important to us to enable us to continue to offer these expert services free-of-charge.’
