Murphys and Hogans eyeing ‘Fittest’ final

- By CATHY LEE

COUNTY WEXFORD has made an impression on RTÉ’s Ireland’s Fittest Family as the Hogan’s from Ferns and the Murphy’s from Kilanerin, have battled hard and made it to the semi-final of the competition.

So far we have seen them take on new weekly obstacles together as a family, most recently the Hell and Back course in county Wicklow, but it seems that nothing can phase them.

Wexford hurling star and co-creator of the programme Davy Fitzgerald is the Hogan family coach, and they are his only team left in the competition while the Murphy’s are paired with Olympic athlete Derval O’Rourke.

Beginning with 15 families, only the fittest remain including Willie (51), Dolly (43), Andrew (20) and Robert (17) Murphy as well as Tom (37), Dena (37), Josh (17) and one of the youngest in the competition, 14 year old Jay Hogan.

The families say they have gotten a lot of support since the programmed aired last month, but they both know that the reward has really been spending time together as a family.

Both families have impressed so far, with the competitive bunch both coming in first place on occasion in some of the challenges.

But it’s all to play for as the Wexford families face off at the semi-final, which will be shown this Sunday at 6.30 p.m. on RTÉ One.

The final of the competition will see all roads lead to Dublin’s Croke Park where the final will take place and the four surviving families will battle it out to be crowned Ireland’s Fittest Family 2019.
