ENNISCORTHY Vocational College opened its doors to prospective new students and their parents recently and it was a great success.

The school was packed with 5th and 6th class pupils from primary schools throughout the town and district.

Parents and guardians got to view the facilities available in the school and meet staff members during their visit.

Principal Dr Iain Wickham addressed the guests and outlined the curriculum and diverse range of activities on offer in and out of school time.

He also highlighted the caring atmosphere that exists in the school, that is fostered through a strong pastoral system which includes a very successful support team for First Year students.

During their tour of the school the prospective students and their parents got to meet the teachers and current college students who were happy to talk to them about what it’s like to attend school there.

The visitors also got to see first-hand a wide range of classroom activities and they were also entertained by the school orchestra.

The science laboratories attracted a lot of interest with many exciting experiments in progress while the visitors were there.

The guests also saw the Home Economics rooms where projects were displayed and delicious goodies were on offer.

Current students in the school gave a demonstration of the various PE and sports activities that take place in the gymnasium and the guests also got to view the school’s art rooms where works and projects by current students were on display.

The visitors then went to the metalwork/engineering room, design communications graphics room , and the woodwork/ construction rooms where they also got to view projects currently under way the state-ofthe-art equipment available to use.

As they toured the school the visitors completed a quiz and handed in their answers at the end, with a chance of winning free book rental for three years.

A spokesperson for the school said the tour was ‘very well received’.

‘All-in-all, it was an enjoyable evening, and it presented an excellent demonstration of what Enniscorthy Vocational College is all about,’ he said.

‘A supportive, friendly learning environment with a strong emphasis placed on high quality teaching and learning, enabling students to become the best people they can be.’
