Rathnure G.A.A. launches athletic development programme

-

RATHNURE G.A.A. club recently launched its new athletic development programme to all members of the club from Under-13 up to and including adult.

The main aim of the programme is to help prepare the players’ bodies for the demands of their sport and includes such areas as agility, balance, nutrition, mobility, speed and balance.

The overall goal is to help players to learn and develop safe, efficient techniques by getting the basics right at an early stage.

Long-term this will help players promote self-sufficiency and reduce the risk of injury as they move forward to adult ranks.

Working in conjunction with Wexford G.A.A. and following the player pathway programme, Damian Quigley will manage the roll-out.

Construction, based in Australia and currently the main club sponsor, has kindly sponsored the project and all necessary equipment has been purchased.

Ferrycarrig Construction sponsored a state of the art scoreboard for Rathnure earlier this year also.

This is a great example of a successful business giving something back to the community.

Rathnure G.A.A. run their hugely-popular nursery, ‘Busy Bees’, on a Saturday morning which introduces all children under the age of four to the basics of agility, movement and balance.

This concept is then continued with the Hurling 365 initiative involving all the pupils of Rathnure National School before finally moving on to the athletic development programme for any player in secondary school right up to adult level.
