Lantern ready to let the laughter commence
INEVITABLY, after the excesses of the festive season, a lull follows in January. Wexford’s Lantern Events are offering the ideal opportunity to buck the January blues, however, by picking up tickets to one of several high profile comedy gigs they have coming up.
Kicking things off on February 20 with an intimate show at Mackens is Danny O’Brien. ‘Reformer’ focuses on what happens when a stand-up comedian can no longer stand up. After a near career ending injury, O’Brien is too young for pilates and too unbalanced for yoga. It promises to be a riot.
Next up we have Julie Jay with ‘Julie Really Love Me?’ which again takes to the Mackens stage on March 5. Julie is currently supporting some of the biggest names in Irish comedy including Ardal O’Hanlon, Des Bishop and Tommy Tiernan.
Her latest show explores the quest for validation, applying lessons gleamed from Oprah in the 90s to modern life and navigating ‘ being childless in the state of Gilead and guards’.
Fresh from his appearance on ‘ I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ Andrew Maxwell returns to Wexford with his new show ‘Reality’ at The Crown Live on March 12.
As always, Andrew will take on the tough political subjects that some comedians just skirt around, and no doubt he will also have some interesting anecdotes on his time in the jungle.
It’s back over to Mackens on March 12 as Cork comedian Chris Kent brings his latest show ‘Christy Doesn’t Live Here’.
Hilariously deadpan, the Cork man tries to come to terms with being called ‘well trained’ for carrying out basic tasks and he also gets deep and talks about his favourite clothes horse, ‘garment donkey’!
Finishing in the beautiful National Opera House, Foil Arms and Hog are sure to receive a massive Wexford welcome for their new show ‘Swines’. The bad news is that the show is already sold-out, but those lucky enough to have bought tickets will be absolutely buzzing to see the trios unique blend of improv and sketch comedy.
They have sold out every show in Wexford since 2015 and this one looks set to be among the best yet.
