Large party days are over – Verona

-

VERONA MURPHY launched her Independent campaign in Foleys of Newbawn on Saturday, at which she said the days of large parties ruling the country are over.

A large crowd gathered in Newbawn for the launch at which MC Jack Barden said: ‘New Ross needs a TD badly. Verona is best placed to win the New Ross seat. She has demonstrated in the by-election that she has name recognition and vote getting ability. She will attract votes throughout the constituency. She is a hard worker and capable.’

Chairman of Farm Contractors Ireland (FCI) Peter Farrelly travelled from Co Meath to address the crowd. Commenting on her candidature Mr Farrelly said: ‘Verona is one of the most capable candidates to come to national politics in the last decade.’ He urged the people of the New Ross district and the people of Co Wexford to use their vote wisely. ‘If Verona is elected she will put New Ross on the map such is her national profile,’ he said.

Ms Murphy said: ‘New Ross needs a TD, it has not been represented properly at national level for decades. It’s the forgotten district.’

She said: ‘New Ross is my home town. It needs a fresh approach. It needs jobs. It has lots to offer and if elected I will put New Ross on the map in the same way that I made the Irish Road Haulage Association a household name and I will also open an office in the town.’

In a statement last week, Ms Murphy promised to bring colour to the election campaign: ‘My independence will allow me to articulate the views of the people I represent without compromise. Politics has changed radically over the past decade and the large party system as we know it is at an end. Coalitions involving Independents are now the new political reality. Independents can give effect to real change in this new landscape. If elected I will be a fearless advocate for the people of Wexford and I hope to bring a fresh dimension to politics in Wexford and nationally.’
