Carroll hits Forth winner

-

SIX GAMES survived Sunday morning’s frozen pitches, with the big game of the day seeing the top two in the Premier Division clash when Forth Celtic hosted Seaview United.

Seaview enjoyed the majority of the chances in the first-half, with their best falling to Lisa Dower who saw her well-struck shot rocket back off the crossbar.

Forth came more into the game in the second-half and took the lead when substitute Sarah Carroll tapped home from just inside the six-yard box.

Seaview battled strongly for an equaliser but found the home side’s well-organised defence difficult to break down as Forth held on for the win to move top of the table.

Ferns sit just three points behind as they travelled to Courtown Hibs and came away 5-1 winners to record their second win of the season.

While Ferns will be delighted with the win, the Courtown manager was equally happy with the performance and energy of his young team.

Ferns led 3-0 at the break before Holly Tobin pulled one back for the home side, but two further goals from the current Premier titleholders saw them take victory. Hayleigh Nolan and Rachel Collier scored two goals each, with Nicola Davitt also on target.

Bree United continued their good form in Division 1 as they hosted St. Joseph’s and came away 4-1 winners to move three points clear at the top.

Michelle Gahan was on target for the visitors, but two goals from Amy Long and one each from Kate Murphy and Niamh Sinnott proved enough to see the home side safely to victory.

Bunclody have started to find a run of form lately and caused a minor upset when inflicting the first defeat of the season on divisional leaders Kiltealy Celtic.

An early goal from Celine Slye plus a Trish Mullally penalty saw

Bunclody go 2-0 up before Alma Morris pulled one back for Kiltealy, but the visitors had the final say when Trish Mullally scored her second for a 3-1 win.

Kiltealy still sit six points clear at the top of the division, but it does open the door for New Ross Town to sneak back into the title race.

The two title favourites in Division 3 recorded wins, with Wexford Bohs travelling to Cushinstown and winning 5-0, while Enniscorthy United were well beaten at home by leaders Shelburne.

Aliat Kotun scored twice for Bohs to add to goals from Hayley Roche, Holly Hynes and Jessica Sinnott.

Four goals from Eimear Murphy, a hat-trick from Kate O’Keeffe, two goals from Gina Foley and one each from Niamh Kehoe, Aisling Breen, Chloe Byrne and Ella Lyng saw Shelburne come away from Enniscorthy United 13-0 winners, giving them their seventh win of the season and leaving them hot favourites for the Division 3 title.
