Former Bunclody resident facing series of charges

-

A FORMER Bunclody resident was back in County Wexford to deal with a series of charges alleging that he made threats and that he took a car from the forecourt of a petrol station.

Simon Quilligan (37) was living on the Ryland Road in Bunclody at the time of the alleged offences back in 2016

However, the District Court was told that he had since spent time out of the country, and gardaí believed that he also lived in Athlone for a while.

He was brought before Judge Brian O’Shea in custody as he was facing a charge of attempted murder in another court.

Garda Dan Whelan charged Quilligan with taking a car which had been left at the petrol station near where he lived on Ryland Road.

It had been parked there so that a potential buyer could take a test drive.

The ignition key and log book had been left in the Carlow registered vehicle, which was later recovered.

The court was told that the defendant was living at the time on a site in Ryland Road with his wife and two children.

It was alleged that he arrived home one day in January of 2016 to find ESB worker Paul Clarke present.

The man from the power company was up a pole dealing with an illegal connection to the electricity network.

The prosecution case was that

Clarke had stones thrown at him and that his ladder was removed while he remained up the pole.

It was further alleged that the accused made threats to damage the pole and a nearby water pump.

Quilligan’s counsel said that his client had been out of the country and he was now on remand accused of attempted murder.

The Bunclody matters were adjourned to February 26.
