Shot and caught event proves to be a great hit
RATHNURE village and Ballywilliam were buzzing recently when the annual ‘Shot & Caught’ fundraiser for Wexford Hospice Homecare took place.
The event has grown in popularity to the extent that this time around it took place over two days.
The events included a tractor run, a poker classic and the John Wickham Memorial Cup 30-bird sporting competition.
The organisers really worked hard this year to incorporate a number of different attractions for those attending, with the programme of events including a chopping demonstration by members of Team Timber Ireland.
While the focus of attention was mainly on outdoor activities during the daytime, a wide range of indoor events also took place in the evening time and at night.
The poker classic took place in O’Neill’s, The Top Place, in Ballywilliam and it provided the ideal way to kick things off.
The following night, after the shooting competition and the tractor run during the day, Conran’s Pub in Rathnure was the venue for a fantastic singalong session with local musicians.
A highlight of the weekend was the serving of free, delicious wild food that was cooked and served on the night.
A number of guest chefs helped prepare the various dishes, including Dave O’Neill from Monart Destination Spa, Avoca chef Leonard Rasmussen and Michael Cannon.
The organisers were delighted with the success of the event and they thanked everyone who turned up to support it over the weekend and, in doing so, helped raise much-needed funds for a very worthy community-based organisation.
