Original Beatle Pete Best is rocking up to Wexford

- BY SIMON BOURKE

THE man who was once part of the biggest band in the history of popular music is coming to Wexford for a special appearance later this month.

Pete Best was formerly the Beatles’ drummer before being replaced by Ringo Starr in 1962. And, on Friday, March 27 the so called ‘Fifth Beatle’ will be appearing at the Riverbank House Hotel for ‘An Audience with Pete Best’.

Organised by self-confessed Beatles’ fanatic, Maurice McCarthy, tickets for the event cost €25 and can be purchased at the Riverbank or online at ticketstop.ie

Maurice explained what fans could expect on the night, ‘It will start off with me interviewing Pete about his time with the Beatles. We’ll have photos of him with

John, Paul and George, not Ringo obviously because he wasn’t there at the time.

‘Pete was with the band for two years, from their formation in 1960 until 1962 and during that time they were mostly gigging in Hamburg, playing seven nights a week, seven hours a week.’

After Maurice has finished grilling Pete on all things Beatles, the audience members will have an opportunity to ask some questions of their own. This 90-minute question and answer session will, according to Maurice, see ‘Pete answer anything that’s asked of him’.

Pete will then sign paraphernalia for fans before the night will conclude with Maurice and his band-mates performing some of the Beatles’ best-known hits until the show comes to a close at 12.30 a.m.
