LIDL Ireland invested €6.7 million in Wexford last year. The supermarket’s Impact Report for 2019 shows this sum was invested in local suppliers and external partners throughout the county.

Lidl currently employs 87 people in its four stores in the county.

The report details the economic and social impact Lidl has made within the communities it serves throughout Wexford.

This includes the €11,304 it has raised for Jigsaw, its charity partner which provides vital services to young people to combat mental health difficulties.

Mike Mansfield of Jigsaw said, ‘ The impact of the Lidl partnership on Jigsaw nationally, but also locally here in Wexford, has been significant. The Lidl staff have really got behind what we are trying to do, from fundraising, to talking with customers, to promoting and advocating our work and much more, they have again and again, gone above and beyond.’

In addition four local Ladies’ Gaelic Football clubs were awarded jerseys and equipment through the Lidl LGFA Club partnership and 11,097 meals were donated to FoodCloud charities in the region.

Lidl’s community partnership with FoodCloud also works to reduce food waste. In 2019 the national partnership diverted 230,699 kgs of food from being sent to landfill and saving 738,237 units of CO2.

Wexford equated for 2% of this total, diverting 4,660kgs of food from landfill and saving 14,913 units of CO2.
