Gigs get the axe as a result of coronavirus

-

WITH indoor gatherings over 100 people being banned as part of strict measures being imposed by the government as they battle the coronavirus pandemic, concerts and gigs across Wexford are being axed.

The National Opera House issued a statement saying that the building was closing for public performances from Thursday evening until Sunday March 29. Among the cancelled shows are Des Bishop, Foil Arms and Hog, the Wexford Sinfonia and the final shows of The Wexford Drama Festival. ‘We are currently working on rescheduling the events due to be staged during this period and we will contact all ticket-holders with further details as soon as possible,’ the National Opera House statement said.

Also falling foul of the ban were shows like Kieran Goss and Annie Kinsella, JMA’s Bob Dylan Tribute night and Ross Browne at Wexford Arts Centre who have completely shut down and won’t be re-opening until Monday, March 30.

‘In accordance with National Government directive in relation to Covid-19 and in accordance with health and safety guidelines for the health and safety of our staff, audiences, visitors, participants and artist, Wexford Arts Centre and The Presentation Centre will close,’ the statement read. ‘All scheduled events during this time will be postponed with alternative dates to be determined. Our box office staff are following up with customers that have pre booked events during this time and will provide further updates on our website.’ Similarly Lantern Events announced that all their scheduled shows were also cancelled as a result of the guidelines and that they would be emailing customers with details.
