Remedy Club will launch new album via live stream

- By SIMON BOURKE

The Remedy Club will launch their new album ‘ True Hand True Heart’ via a live stream on their Facebook page on Friday, March 27 at 8 p.m.

The Gorey duo Aileen Mythen and KJ McEvoy had been set to play a special gig in Crown Live to celebrate the release of their third album. However, following the gig’s postponement due to the coronavirus they are now bringing the music to their fans by alternate means.

‘ We wanted to do something to celebrate the day,’ explained Aileen. ‘ We don’t normally do live videos, this is our first one ever.

‘ We haven’t fully worked it out where we’ll play from yet but it’s looking like it’ll be a ‘ kitchen sink’ session. It will be an acoustic set, we tried to orgnise the rest of the band to come in but it wasn’t possible because of the social distancing to have six of us in the room.’

As originally intended Aileen and KJ will play all ten new tracks from their album along with some old favourites. They will also take requests from those watching online.

And Aileen believes staying in touch with one another, even if only through Facebook, is vital as we come to terms with the impact of COVID-19.

‘A total of 181 people helped fund this album, helped make it happen, so they’re very much a part of it,’ she said. ‘I think we need to keep connected during these times, and what better way to do it than through music?’

Completed almost a year ago, ‘ True Hand True Heart’ saw Aileen and KJ decamp to the Room and Board studios in Nashville where they worked with five-time Grammy award winning producer Ray Kennedy.

In addition to this all-star talent, they also employed a range of musicians, a PR team and a graphic designer. And with the tour they had planned to promote the album in danger of being delayed indefinitely, Aileen admits these are worrying times.

Yet Aileen is loath to complain and instead chooses to focus on the positives in life and an album which, in many ways, is of its time.

‘Our gig in the O2 London at the C2C Festival, our album launch in Crown Live, our spring tour dates and festival slots have all been cancelled and it’s looking like a lot more on top of that. This is obviously a huge disappointment and will mean a loss of earnings but every single person has been affected by this pandemic.

‘I think we need music now more than ever and it is wonderful to see so many online gigs happening to soothe us during these tough times. Music can be a great uniter and has the ability to bring us all together from every corner of the world and lift our collective spirits.’

And although True Hand True Heart was recorded a year ago Aileen believes it touches on many of the issues which have arisen as a result of the spread of the coronavirus.

‘ There are many themes covered in the album including love, loss and a longing for unity and peace in place of division and building walls between us.

‘Ultimately the songs are about humanity’s compassion and kindness over power and greed and finding that connection with ourselves and others.’

Fans can pre-order copies of ‘ True Hand True Heart’ from The Remedy Club’s website and it will be available across all platforms from March 27.
