Local businesses step up and offer home delivery

-

FOLLOWING Leo Varadkar’s most recent address to the nation, the extent of the Covid-19 crisis has well and truly been brought home. We are constantly seeing messages urging us to stay at home where possible and limit all social contact as much as possible. While shops offering essential supplies remain open, those deemed non-essential have closed their doors.

While we’re being told to remain at home where possible, we still have to live. We still need to get vital supplies into our homes. For elderly people, those who are immuno-compromised or vulnerable, or those who may be self-isolating as a result of Covid-19, this can be a difficult task. We were encouraged not to bulk buy at the beginning. We were told that food supplies would be plentiful. However, when you’re not leaving the house, they can still be difficult to access.

That’s where a lot of local businesses across Wexford have really stepped up to the mark. When faced with the same uncertainty and difficulty that we’re all coming to terms with, they’ve opted not to abandon their customers in their hour of need and adapt accordingly to suit the situation.

As a result, we’ve seen plenty of local businesses in recent weeks offering home delivery.

So if you’re isolating or doing your best to avoid the virus by staying in your home, you won’t have to worry about the supply of food on your shelves.

A number of local butchers, such as Boyles Butchers in New Ross, are taking orders and payment by phone and will drop your meat to the door. Similarly, with fish being so high in protein and essential oils, it’s a good idea to get in touch with Atlantis Seafood or Meyler’s Fish in Wexford and they will deliver the finest quality fish for an affordable price to your door.

The likes of Scallans Food Factory and Eurospar in Bunclody are also offering home deliveries of all your vital household supplies, which is reassuring and one less thing to worry about in difficult times for us all.

It’s also worth remembering that this difficult time is having a devastating impact on local businesses across the country, so when buying your essentials, try your best to shop local and keep more Wexford people in jobs in the midst of a period of great uncertainty for the Irish economy. While the idea of going out and shopping can be frightening for some people, just remember that there are other options and your local businesses won’t see you stuck as we weather this storm together.
