Wins for Wexford owners on final night of action

-

CO. WEXFORD owners had some nice winners on Tuesday at Shelbourne Park – the last night of racing before greyhound activity came to a halt.

In race seven, trap one runner Hello Patsy, owned by Willie Doyle of Gorey, overcame a poor start to turn in third spot, albeit four lengths off the pace-setters down the back straight.

He stayed on well though to drive up the inside and grab the win right on the line by a short head in a time of 29.54, recording the sixth race win of her career.

Enniscorthy owners John Codd and Diana Brody had a good night also as their Cushie Wayne took race nine. Once again it was a last-gasp win after a very slow start, collaring leader Ravenswood Amy near the line in a time of 29.16.

They were unfortunate not to record a double as Cushie Spirit had no luck running in race six. After getting badly held up off the opening corners, Cushie put in a powerful finish to be only two lengths second to the all the way leader, Shehasitall.

Frank Nyhan, Chairman of the IGB, has stated: ‘The care and welfare of racing greyhounds remains a priority action for the IGB and the wider greyhound community.

‘The current Covid-19 crisis has required the suspension of racing activity which results in an income loss for those involved in the greyhound industry.

‘The purpose of the Covid-19 Greyhound Care Payment Scheme is to ensure that the care and welfare of greyhounds continues to remain a priority and that funding is available to the greyhound community to support the costs associated with the daily care of their greyhounds.

‘I ask all in the greyhound community to work together during the current crisis and to stay safe by complying with all government advice and HSE protocols.

‘I look forward to the resumption of greyhound racing as soon as is possible.’

The IGB has confirmed that it has made its facilities and staff available to assist, where required, in support of the national effort to combat Covid-19.

Please stay safe and follow the guidelines set out by the HSE, and we all will be back racing all the sooner and some sort of normality can return to all our lives.
