STORYTELLING

One of the best night’s storytelling ever took place in St. Aidan’s Hall, Irish Street, Bunclody on Thursday, March 31 last with Andy Doyle as Fear on Tigh and Kitty Mahon as Bean an Tigh, who welcomes all present.

Among the highly-talented gathering were Jack Kilbride on the banjo and mouth-organ; Mary Nolan on the accordion; Dermott Curran, who sang and played accordion; Martin Codd, who sang better than ever; and, of course, Lily Morrissey who has been blessed with a beautiful voice; Seamus and Gretta Dowling with story, song and music; Bob and Mary Lambert with song and story; Pat and Mary Doran with recitations; Paul Campbell on banjo; Lar O’Brien and Willie White with recitations. Also of course was the ever present local talent Brian Twomey, Alice Cullen, John Moulton, Alice Dunbar, Mick and Kathleen Donohoe and of course Andy Doyle and the bould Kitty Hayes-Mahon herself!

The highlight of course was the set dancing Hughie Finn, Lily Morrissey, Molly White and Andy Doyle. Sure Riverdance is not in it with them! Andy is now embarking on a set dancing career. As well as his other talents, he is now also playing the bodhrán. There is just no end to this fellow’s talent.

Maureen and Bridget must not be forgotten for the tasty supper and Tom Mahon for the good fire and all who turned up to make the night such a success. The night ended with all musicians and singers in a grand finale.
