THE Director of Nursing at an Enniscorthy nursing home has praised the extraordinary generosity of a ten-year-old schoolgirl from Marshalstown for ‘making Easter’ as a result of her giving Easter eggs to every resident in the facility.

Josepha Gladney, who is in charge of nursing at Castle Gardens Nursing Home and Memory Care Centre, said the gesture from Carly Ryan last week was fantastic and everyone in the facility was overwhelmed by her what she did.

Carly, who is in third class in Marshalstown National School, got to know many of the residents in the nursing home from visiting her great-nanny, Annie Fenlon, who is a resident there.

With money she raised through a mini-company called Carly’s Creations, which she set up with the help of her great-aunt prior to Christmas, Carly decided to buy an Easter egg for all of the residents in the nursing home.

Ms Gladney said it was ‘a huge thing to do and such kindness for a ten-year

old to exhibit is inspiring.’

THE Director of Nursing at an Enniscorthy nursing home has praised the extraordinary generosity of a ten-year-old schoolgirl from Marshalstown for ‘making Easter’ after she gave Easter eggs to every resident in the facility.

Josepha Gladney, who is in charge of nursing at Castle Gardens Nursing Home and Memory Care Centre, said the gesture from Carly Ryan last Tuesday was fantastic and everyone in the facility was overwhelmed by her what she did.

Carly, who is in third class in Marshalstown NS, got to know many of the residents in the nursing home from visiting her great-nanny, Annie Fenlon, who is a resident there.

In turn, the residents and staff have become very fond of Carly and love seeing her visit. However, the current pandemic has obviously curtailed those visits for the time being.

Carly had wanted to give her great-nanny a present from money she raised through her mini-company ‘Carly’s Creations’, which she set up with the help of her greataunt prior to Christmas. However, her great-nanny was taken into hospital in the interim and she didn’t get to give her a gift and then she went into Castle Gardens but the pandemic struck.

Carly’s mum, Gillian, said her daughter has always been a caring and giving type of person.

‘ That’s just her nature,’ she said. ‘She’s always been like that and we’re all really proud of what she did.’

With the money she raised from her mini-company, Carly decided to buy an Easter egg for her all of the residents in the nursing home.

‘She is very fond of them and we actually got the Easter eggs a little while ago so she could deliver them at Easter,’ said Gillian.

However, when the pandemic occurred, they were afraid Carly wouldn’t be able to deliver them on time.

‘We contacted Castle Gardens to see if there was a way she could still get them in there and they were delighted to accept them,’ said Gillian.

She said Carly’s sister, Kelsey (15), brother, Bobby (8), and her dad Kenneth Ryan are all really proud of her for doing what she did.

Gillian also said Carly is looking forward to one of the residents celebrating her 100th birthday next month and hopes she will be able to visit by then.

‘She wants to celebrate it with her and if she can’t go in then she’ll hopefully get to go in shortly after,’ said Gillian.

Meanwhile, Ms Gladney said Carly’s thoughtfulness was inspiring.

‘I just want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the residents,’ she told this newspaper.

‘A ten-year-old girl has absolutely made Easter for the residents,’ she added.

‘It is a huge thing to do and such kindness for a ten-year-old to exhibit is inspiring.’
