New Ross Mart using online app

-

New Ross Mart has a new, easy to use online buying system, with an app which makes buying cattle easier than ever before.

The first mart using the online sales system was held on May 9 and was a big success.

Mart manager Richie Kirwan said: ‘We are still under Covid-19 restrictions but we are back going with our online sales system.’

With the new system sellers pre-book in their cattle for delivery. They bring the animals to the mart and are given time to unload them between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.

From 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. buyers can inspect the cattle and bidding begins at 1 p.m.

‘It’s the exact same as the mart,’ Richie explains.

‘ The cattle are in the ring and farmers know which lots they are interested in and they bid online through either their phone, their tablet or their laptop. We sold cattle last Saturday to a man in Meath who bought them while he was doing fencing work on his farm.’

A similar system has been introduced in Carnew and it has been a seamless transition there to the new way of doing business.

People planning to buy or sell cattle at New Ross Mart are asked to download the LivestockLive app onto their device. Buyers register with the mart by calling 051 421624 or 086 8452402.

Richie said: ‘It’s the best possible solution at the moment. Going forward when some restrictions are lifted we are not going to get back to full capacity here in the ring. This format will still be there for the foreseeable future. Admittedly we were slow to adapt to technology of online selling because we never saw the need for it. Now it’s just the way it is going forward. It’s a more transparent way of doing business. Before we were tendering in the pens so we’re back to some degree of normalcy now.’

Farmers attending the mart will be directed to adhere to social distancing guidelines for health and safety reasons.

By simply logging on to LivestockLive app you can buy from New Ross Mart . Why not give it a try now?
