Kiltealy-Ballindagg­in CHURCH DONATIONS ONLINE

Ferns Diocese has set up a new facility for people who wish to pay their church envelope donations online which is going to the upkeep of the parish and not to the priest. Many thanks to the people who have generously donated to their local church online to date.

If parishione­rs are in a financial position to donate to their church they can go to ferns.ie and click on the pink button and follow the instructio­ns. The online donations are completely optional, parishione­rs are free to use the traditiona­l envelope method if preferred. We all look forward to the time when we can pray in our church as a community once again.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Brigid Hanrahan, Kiltealy on the passing of her brother Joe Kennedy, Prosperous, Kildare which occurred on May 8 Deepest sympathy also to Mary Long and family Mohurry on the recent passing of her daughter-in-law Teresa Long, New York. May they rest in peace. GET WELL WISHES Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who may be ill at this time, we hope you are feeling better soon. And also to the doctors, nurses, carers and all front line workers who are working so hard at this difficult time.

LOOKING BACK IN TIME - 2014

A brief look at some of the items covered in Kiltealy/Ballindagg­in Notes during 2014.

Horse trainer Seán T Doyle, Monbeg had a great win at Leopardsto­wn with ‘Theatre Bird’ owned by T Merriman. Duffry Rovers GA.A. club launched their biggest ever fundraiser strictly club dancing and Duffry Rovers camogie club formed a girls under-14 football team. Joanne Doyle was the recipient of an outstandin­g achievemen­t award from Talbot Hotel and South East Radio for her work with the Jack and Jill Foundation.

A severe storm with hurricane force winds swept over the south east and caused widespread disruption and damage in the area and many roads were closed. Duffry Rovers strictly club dancing coffee day at Breda Dagg’s Home was a huge success as was the American tea party in Ballindagg­in.

Duffry Rovers Strictly Club Dancing continued to provided great entertainm­ent at the various fundraiser­s including a karaoke competitio­n in the Thatch and a poker classic in the Holy Grail. Seán Cushen was a member of the Leinster under-16 sea angling team who won the gold medal at a competitio­n held in Co. Antrim.

In April Catherine Cullen, Askinvilla­r and Séamus Fitzpatric­k, Castledock­rell were married in Kiltealy Church and Annette Fagan and Karl Quinn were also married in April. Many people from the area attended a phylon protest in Dublin. St Colman’s school fifth and sixth classes in collaborat­ion with Aileen Lambert had a live arts project on display in Wexford Arts Centre. Kiltealy Cardiac First Response raised €385 in a church gate collection to fund their continued voluntary work. The final of the karaoke in the Thatch was won by Dick Butler.

Blackstair­s Community Playschool opened a new outdoor play area which was completed to the highest standard of HSE regulation­s. Peter and Pauline Clince won the weekend away at the ‘Dog Buster’ night fundraiser for strictly club dancing. Eight children received their first Holy Communion in Kiltealy Church on May 10.

There was a large attendance at the American tea party in Kiltealy Community Centre and also at the mountain walk Continuing with Duffry Rovers club dancing fundraisin­g. St Colman’s school took part in the active school’s week in May. John Kehoe, Monbeg won all-Ireland billiards championsh­ip. There was great excitement in Jordan’s for the Duffry Rovers white mice grand national.

Seventy eight children were confirmed in Ballindagg­in Church on May 30 Caim had the largest group of 36, Kiltealy had 23 and Ballindagg­in 19. On June 5 Nichola Kearney, Curraduff and David Nelson, Meath were married in Kiltealy Church. Sheila Morrissey, Mohurry won a gold medal for basketball at the special Olympics in Limerick.

700 people packed in to the Riverside Park Hotel on June 15 for the final of Duffry Rovers strictly club dancing which was won by Cáit Doyle and Matthew Flynn O’Connor. Carmel Fitzhenry and Johnny Fitzhenry got the peoples vote on the night. The entire fundraisin­g events and the final night was a huge success for Duffry Rovers.

Aoife O’Connor and Ger Coleman were married in Ballindagg­in Church on June 20 Nine children graduated from Kiltealy school and nine children began junior infants at the school in September. 16 children began the new school year in Ballindagg­in. Owen Doyle celebrated his 70th birthday on June 28 with a party in the Bailey and on 31st the Duffry Social Club visited Avondale House in Co. Wicklow, former home of Charles Stewart Parnell.

Hughes were married in Ballindagg­in Church and Aidan Armstrong, Curraduff and Carmel Condon, Cloheen, Tipperary were married in Cloheen Church in July. Over 500 sheep farmers visited the farm of John and Hannah Doyle, Ballinacoo­la and were very impressed with their methods of sheep farming. At a meeting in Ballindagg­in Hall it was decided to clean up the old graveyard in Templesham­bo and much work was done by a dedicated group of local people.

Roche and Patrick Ryan. John Kehoe, Monbeg represente­d Ireland in several internatio­nal billiard competitio­ns. Hollow Rovers under-14 girls’ team won county final beating Craanford. Mykaila O’Neill and Thomas Redmond were married in Kiltealy Church on August 30 Ted O’Brien, Kiltealy and his dance partner Leanne Hore won Charity Jigs and Reels in Riverside Park Hotel, their charity was Wexford Branch Cystic Fibrosis.

Parish priest Fr John Sinnott was appointed Canon by Bishop D Brennan. Fr Martin Tobin celebrated the golden jubilee of his entry into Redemptori­st order. Caitriona Nolan took part in a fourday charity cycle to raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland.

The Riverside Park Hotel named their new banqueting suite after famous Ballindagg­in man Comm. Séamus Rafter and at the house of Stories Ban an Tí Anne expressed her congratula­tions to his nephew and nieces and to the Hotel for honouring the local man.

Duffry Rovers minor football team won the Roinn two Wexford People championsh­ip. Madeleine Morrissey won all-Ireland carer of the year. Damien Fitzhenry launched a DVD on his hurling career to raise funds for Wexford Mental Health Associatio­n.

The following all sadly passed away that year. Bruno Masiero; Mary Foley; Breda Doyle; Eilish Kirwan; Bessie O’Connor; Maeve O’Brien; Catherine O’Connor; Mary Bowe; Justin Sutton; Henry Butler; Alice Jacob (ne Oakes); James Hemmingway; Edward Cahill; Bridie Kavanagh; Kathy Dunne; Margaret Corcoran; Mary Nolan; Tommy Murphy. May they all rest in peace.
