David is fondly remembered as a loving son and father

AN APPRECIATION

-

WITH the passing of the first anniversary of her son’s passing, on April 28, and with his birthday occurring on June 11, Ann Kirwan, the mother of the late David Kirwan, has fondly remembered a man who was a loving son, brother and father.

Born in 1978, David, from Fieldview, Kilagoley Terrace, Enniscorthy, was 41 when he passed away in April, 2019.

When he was three-years-old he started wearing glasses and Dr Ryan called him his little professor as he knew David was going to be wearing them forever.

David attended St Senan’s Primary School and really enjoyed his time there.

He made great friends in school – one of them being the late Harry Quinn.

They both joined the local Boy Scouts unit under Peter Quinn. David enjoyed many years in the scouts and he made lots of friends in the group.

They went away to Wales one year and it was David’s first trip on a boat, in addition to staying away from home for a weekend.

Once David got to secondary school, his love for academics started to fade and whilst he tried to stick it out, at the age of 15 he left to start working as a painter.

That was a job he loved from the time he started and through his work he made a lot of friends, some of whom were famous as he did work for Bono’s wife’s family on many occasions.

David started work in Brownswood and became good friends with Vinny and the Allen family, and he also worked in Courtown where he became good friends with Sam, Geoff and the guys there.

David was not a sporty chap in anyway, however, he did love to watch his team, Celtic, play and he even went away on weekends with the Celtic group he had joined.

David was an extremely friendly guy and was always willing to do anyone a favour if they needed help.

He was a proud dad who adored his son, Hadyn, who is now 10-years-old.

David was very much a home bird and while his sisters and brothers all left home, David stayed put telling me that he was going to build a house. When I asked him where he was going to build this house, he simply said in my back garden and he did so.

I went to Lourdes in May, 2019, a short while after David passed and my friends were a great comfort to me: Mary Cummins; Michael Brennan; Marie Duggan and her friends; Bishop Brennan and Fr Broaders; the McCauley family and not to forget Stephen Murphy, who all took turns to bring me to the Grotto so I could pray and light candles for David.

Stephen sang a beautiful song which he dedicated to myself and all of my good friends who helped me through the trip. David, I love you and miss you forever, love Mam xxxx.
