NEW FIRE STATION

According to Barbara-Anne Murphy, MCC, the contractor to build Bunclody’s long-awaited new fire station, Mr Seán Porter, Avoca, Co Wicklow, should be on site to commence the project this week. The new facility will include two fire appliance bays, Station Officer’s office, training room, control room, muster area, breathing apparatus room, canteen facilities and sanitary facilities. The station is expected to be fully operational by early 2006.

BUNCLODY SCHOOLBOYS’ SOCCER

Six boys from Bunclody made history last weekend when they won all-Ireland medals with the Wexford under-14 soccer team. Tomás Brennan, Dwayne Somers, John Byrne, Jonathon Savage, Keith Murphy and Johnny Melay were all part of the Wexford team that defeated Cork in the all-Ireland finals to claim the first-ever

Schoolboys National Title for a Wexford team. The finals were held in Cork to celebrate its European City of Culture status. And what a contribution the Bunclody boys made. Tomas Brennan scored twice in the semi-final against Donegal; Dwayne Somers scored twice in the final; and John Byrne was voted Man of the match, saving no less than three penalties.

A victory celebration has been arranged in the Horse and Hound for Monday, June 20, 2005, at 8 o’ clock, with Mr Packie Bonner, Ireland goalkeeper, and the FAI technical director lined up to present the medals. A civic reception has also been requested for these heroes.

The large number of Bunclody players involved is a huge testament to the great work being done by the club and the parents of Bunclody, and to the far-sighted policy of employing a professional coach, Garry Coady, for the underage players.
