Skill of the week: hand and fist pass

UNDER-7

INTRODUCTI­ON TO

HAND PASS 1) Using the non-writing hand, hold the ball out in front of the body.

2) Strike the ball with an open writing hand against a wall.

3) Point your fingers towards where you want the ball to go.

ACTIVITY Complete ten handpasses against the wall. Do it three times throughout the day.

UNDER-11

BOTH HANDS WITH MOVEMENT 1) Using both hands, move to different distances to practice both the fist pass and the hand pass.

2) Take four steps before releasing the ball to a partner or against a wall.

3) Change hands after each pass.

ACTIVITY

For 30 seconds with a partner, move around a small area taking four steps before passing the ball. Pass should be alternated between left and right hand/fist.

UNDER-15

HAND PASS UNDER PRESSURE TO MOVING TARGET 1) With a partner applying pressure, attempt to get around them and pass to another person on the move. 2) Use both hands throughout to become a more balanced player. ACTIVITY Compete for 30 seconds to see how many passes can be completed under pressure.

UNDER-9

PASS TO A TARGET WITH MOVEMENT 1) Using four steps, pass the ball on the move against a wall.

2) Strike with an open hand at shorter distances.

3) Make a fist and strike the ball with the closed fist.

ACTIVITY

Set out two jumpers ten metres and 14 metres from a wall. Start at the jumper furthest from the wall, moved towards the second jumper, and handpass against the wall. Make a fist to add more power.

UNDER-13

HAND PASS UNDER PRESSURE 1) With a partner shadowing, attempt to get around them and hand pass against a wall or to another person.

2) Use both hands throughout to become a more balanced player.

ACTIVITY With a partner shadowing, see how many passes you can get against the wall in 30 seconds. Do it three times throughout the day.

UNDER-17

HAND PASS UNDER PRESSURE TO MOVING TARGET 1) Ball thrown up between both players, win the ball and get around the partner to deliver a pass to the person throwing the ball.

2) Use both hands throughout to become a more balanced player.

ACTIVITY Compete for 45 seconds against each other, trying to intercept ball. Most successful passes to the target wins.
