SHOOT-OUT JOY: Gorey Community School were crowned Leinster Under-18 ‘A’ soccer league champions for the first time in the history of the competition when they defeated a very strong and skilful Athlone team 5-3 on penalties.
After conceding an early goal, Shane Cahill had fired home the equaliser from a James Nolan pass, and neither side added to their tally before the dreaded spotkicks decided the issue.

DUNNE DELIVERS: Frank Dunne of Slaney Cycling Club in Enniscorthy enjoyed an exhilirating bank holiday, finishing third overall in the Dunboyne threeday race.
The event for second and third category riders proved very competitive, and the native of Killeens in Wexford town was in the thick of things from the off.
Lying 15th going into the Monday stage of 120 kilometres, 18 seconds off the lead, he escaped with the winning break of six riders, sprinting into second place on the stage.
It was the best result posted by a Slaney rider for many years.
POUND SAVER: Save The Pound put up a powerful performance for Wexford brothers Nick and Pat Turner to win the Sam McCauley April stake final at Enniscorthy dog track by one and a half lengths from Honey Pound Bale.
GAMES WINNERS: The Community Games county team finals took place, and it was a good weekend for the Castlebridge/ Crossabeg Area as they won three titles: camogie, Under-12 girls’ football, and Under-11 hurling.
Kilmore also had a fruitful few days, with successes in Under-10 football, Under-12 boys’ soccer, and Under-14 tag rugby.
Newbawn-Raheen recorded a double in Under-13 and Under-15 boys’ rounders, while the equivalent girls’ competitions were won by Piercestown-Murrintown.
Emma Fortune’s goal earned Oulart the Under-12 girls’ soccer title, while Rachel Collier and Nicola Kehoe (penalty) netted as Ferns defeated Ring of Hook 2-0 in the Under-15 decider.
DOYLE DOUBLE: Reading-bound Kevin Doyle signed off with a double as Cork City stretched their lead at the top of the Premier Division to four points with a 2-0 win over Finn Harps.
He travelled to England on June 7 to finalise his move to the Championship club, having also scored for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side in their 2-2 draw with Israel in Flancare Park, Longford.
RATHNURE REIGN: The Rathnure Senior camogie team honoured the late Fr. Paddy McDonald in the best possible way when they retained the title for the one-day tournament staged in his memory, beating St. Vincent’s of Dublin in the final on home soil.
JUNIOR EXIT: Wexford bowed out of the Leinster Junior football championship with barely a whimper when Wicklow forged a 0-15 to 0-10 quarter-final win in Aughrim on June 1, 2005.
Adrian Flynn scored six points from play for the losers.
