New map shows parts of the county worst hit by Covid-19

-

AS part of their new Covid-19 Data Hub, the Department of Health has unveiled a new map which allows the general public to see roughly the amount of cases that currently exist or have previously existed in their own area.

The new map breaks the country down into electoral divisions and offers an approximate figure for how many cases of Covid-19 are in each area, at the same time pointing out that a ‘high proportion of such cases will have fully recovered within a 14 day period’. At a glance, there is evidence of Co Wexford’s low numbers, with the vast majority of electoral divisions registering the smallest possible red dot, which means less than five confirmed cases.

Of the main towns, Wexford Urban electoral divisions 1, 2 and 3 all registered less than five cases, while Wexford Rural (which includes the likes of Clonard, Coolcotts and the Mulgannon area) had a total of 12.

New Ross Urban registered 10 confirmed cases, while New Ross Rural came in with a further 5. The worst cluster in Co Wexford though, came in the Kilmokea electoral division, which contains Cherry Grove Nursing Home. There were 36 confirmed cases here in an area that in 2016 had a population of just 816 people. The map also shows a further five cases in the Rathroe electoral division which includes Ramsgrange.

There were six cases in the Enniscorthy Rural division, while the heart of the town registered less than five cases, as did Bunclody. According to the map, the Gorey District also saw quite a few cases of the virus. Gorey Rural saw nine, while Gorey Urban registered six. Just out the road in Courtown, there were a further six cases with a further 10 in the Ardamine electoral division. Slightly further north, Ballynestragh and Kilgorman saw a further five cases each. It would appear that the remainder of Wexford’s 216 confirmed cases are dotted throughout the county. The map will be updated weekly and can be viewed by searching for the Ireland Covid-19 Data Hub.
