Barntown owner’s double a highlight as racing returns

-

ENNISCORTHY DOG track will be back to two nights again this week, and owners and greyhounds are delighted to be back doing what they do best.

Last Thursday night featured a nine-race card, and some good runs were recorded.

Owner George Roche from Barntown enjoyed a nice double. His Barstool Lad was an impressive winner of race two, getting a fast start and running out four and a half lengths clear of Tullycanna Lady who ran on well after a slow enough start in a fast 29.07 -.30 slow.

Things were not so clearcut to bring up the double as Strictly Honey led in race nine but was all out to hold the challenge of Cushie Wayne.

Only a neck separated them at the line in a time of 29.29 -.30 slow.

Race one saw the easiest winner of the night when the Philip O’Brien-owned Slaneyside Manus proved nine lengths too good for his opponents, recording a time of 29.68 -.30 slow.

Race six saw another easy winner when Superior Tyson - owned by Tracey Fitzpatrick from Gorey - raced to a clear win when powering to the lead down the back to race home eight and a half lengths clear of his field in a fast 29.18 -.30 slow.

Race eight went to Gunner Rosa, trained by Brendan Barnes from Arklow for the Four Nations syndicate.

Taking up the running into the first bend, Gunner went away down the back to score readily in a good 29.27 -.30 slow.

Racing is back in full swing from this week, with all tracks returning to full programmes.

Hopefully spectators will be back soon also.
