‘BOG LANE’ PETITION

The group campaigning to have the ‘Bog Lane’ tarred from Tobar Geal to Ballytracey have been cleaning the remaining weeds and growth from the ruins of ‘Shorehole’ Jack Murphy’s house.

The house, which was occupied up to 50 years ago, was little changed from the original which existed in 1798. The roof had been blown off and replaced in the big storm of 1839 and the last resident, Tony Devereux, emigrated to England around 50 years ago.

The past 50 years have seen the cosy thatched cottage crumble to barely recognisable ruins. Weather permitting, they are hoping to make more progress over the next few weeks and make the ruins a feature on a lovely country ramble down the old Bog Lane.

If you have not signed their petition yet, please do so and contact your local county councillors to lobby them.
