Fresh start as secondary school beckons

-

THIS August the 6th Class pupils of our county’s great primary schools become secondary school students.

It’s a big step up and a new beginning, brimming with excitement, possibilities and opportunities.

Primary school is where children grow into the people they will be for the rest of their lives. In secondary school they develop and build on the skills they have learned from Junior Infants all the way through to 6th class.

Having spent eight years being taught by teachers under one roof, they now move into a new environment.

The past few months have taught pupils a lot. They have learned the value of friendship, witnessed the efforts of their parents in these challenging times and seen changes in themselves.

6th Class pupils this year have had a different experience of their final year in primary school compared to their parents and to everyone who went before them.

They have had to be resilient, have learned to adapt and have learned time management skills. The past three months have very difficult for some pupils and all students will need support once they return to school, (albeit a different school) this autumn.

Life is change and everyone who has lived through the past few months is more aware of this now, including the 12 and 13 year old 6th Class pupils.

They are moving on to big school with a treasure-trove of golden memories in their hearts and with minds eager to learn and experience more.
