Bunclody Vocational College hosts virtual awards ceremony

- By SIMON BOURKE

ITS academic year may have been ended prematurely, but Bunclody Vocational College (BVC) has still managed to host an end of year awards ceremony for its students.

Furthermore, the 2020 Awards will go down in history as the first ever virtual awards, the entire ceremony screened on the school’s website, www.bunclodyvc.ie

During the ceremony a varied list of awards were presented, reflecting the enormous amount of work undertaken by students and staff during the year.

These ranged from academic and class awards to JCSP, Merit and Enterprise awards. Attendance and sports achievements were also recognised.

A few of the major awards including Senior Academic, Junior and Senior Students of the Year Awards were not announced as it was felt that the recipients deserved to be presented with the award in front of their parents and peers. These will be presented in the autumn.

While there were numerous academic awards there were also awards given out to those who showed a love of their subject, those who showed a great work ethic and those who have contributed to the student-centred environment of the school.

School Principal Jay Murphy addressed everyone by video and reflected on the year and on the effort and dedication shown by pupils and staff, especially during the school closure period.

He thanked the Parent’s Council and the Board of Management and the staff of Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB) for all their hard work and support throughout the year. Mr Murphy then took the opportunity to wish the Leaving Certificate class of 2020 well for the future, adding he was confident that BVC has prepared them well for the next chapter in their lives and looked forward to welcoming them back for their graduation in the autumn.
