Gardai called to the Moyne after large crowd gathers outside house
THE GARDAI in Enniscorthy were called to major disturbance in the Westbury Woods area of the town last week where a large crowd of people had gathered in protest outside a house.
A number of gardai had to attend the scene and Inspector Syl Hipwell told this newspaper that around 150 people gathered outside a particular house.
It’s believed they were there to voice there concern about two people being in the property.
Serious allegations were made by some of the people in attendance outside the house in relation to the people in the house.
Howver, the gardai confirmed that while one of the people inside was known to the them in relation to relatively minor matters there was nothing in evidence or under investigation to back up the allegations being made by the crowd of protesters.
The gardai also said the people at whom the protestors were aiming their anger don’t reside at the address.
There was a verbal confrontation between some of the people in attendance who directed verbal abuse at some of the gardai as the people in the house were removed.
During the course of the incident a window in the house was broken and at least one protester was subsequently questioned in relation to the matter. It’s believed that charges will be proffered against one person as a result of the damage to the window.
While there were three occupants in the house this newspaper has learned that the two people against whom the protest was aimed were not ‘officially’ resident at that address.
The incident lasted a number of hours but eventually the crowd dispersed once the gardai removed the people from the house.
