-

A MAN who broke two windows at his ex-partner’s home after their relationship ended was ordered to pay compensation to her family at Wexford District Court.

Stephen Porter (34) of 11 Glen Aoibhinn, Middletown, Courtown Harbour, was charged with criminal damage at Garryduff, Campile, on October 20, 2019 and October 21, 2019.

Sgt Victor Isdell told the court that a kitchen window belonging to Thomas Aspel was damaged on October 20, 2019 and a second window was damaged the following day, by Porter on both occasions. The total loss to Mr Aspel was €400, he said.

Solicitor Yvonne Dunne said her client brought €400 to court with him on the previous occasion the matter was listed, adding that he suffers from some mental health issues that can result in impulsive behaviour.

She said his actions were a response to a stressful situation in his life.

Ms Dunne said Porter entered a plea of guilty on the first day the matter was before the court. She said he has no previous convictions.

‘He was having problems with his girlfriend. Their relationship had broken down. He accepts full responsibility.’

Judge Kevin Staunton said Porter and the Aspel family were close in the past, adding that he hopes they can sort out their differences.

Judge Staunton said: ‘ This is a very unfortunate incident. Thankfully Mr Porter knew this family well then something out of kilter with his personality (occurred).’
