COURTOWN

The men’s singles competitio­n on Wednesday, October 14, was won by Donal Sheehan (13) with 43 points.

In second place was Tom Hughes (15) on 40 points, while Richard Conroy (7) was third on 39 points, just ahead of Brian Besanson (17) who was fourth on 38 points.

The Wednesday sweep over the reduced course was won by Tom Lynch (11) on 27 points (last nine). Patrick Kenny (13), also on 27 points, was second, while Brian Besanson (17) was third on 26 points.

Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, was a ladies’ and gents’ turkey singles competitio­n. The winner of the gents’ competitio­n was Taylor Dench (18) with 39 points (back nine).

Runner-up was Patrick Kenny (13), also on 39 points (back nine), and Eoin Cullen (14) was third, also on 39 points (back nine).

Best gross was Paul Kavanagh (4) on 33 points. The ladies’ competitio­n was won by Eileen Cullen (19) on 37 points, while Sarah Donnellan (4) was second on 35 points.

Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, are invitation two-person team events, while Bank Holiday Monday, October 26, is a four-person team scramble.

Due to the present Covid-19 regulation­s, competitio­ns are limited to members and guests from within the county, and all open competitio­ns are cancelled for the duration.

BALLYMONEY

Wednesday nine-hole competitio­n mixed (open): 1, Tom Storey (21), 22 points; 2, Paul Doolan (12), 21 points; 3, Brian Moore (24), 20 points, holding off Martin Conroy, Martin Storey and Stephen Greene on countback.

The weekend three-person scramble (open) was won by the team of Colm Stafford, Jake O’Shea and Steve Barnes with a fine score of 59.6 nett strokes.

A reminder that names are still being taken for the winter league.

DONOHOE’SSOCIETY

Donohoe’s Golf Society played Blackwater on Sunday morning, with only twelve members and one guest turning up.

With the final of the matchplay taking place, Robert Bernie had a good day by beating Trevor Murphy 3&2 and taking first prize with 37 points.

In second place, also with 37 points, was ‘Prof’ Nolan, and the best of the other three 37s was Cha O’Brien in third place. Sam Farnan took home the birdie money with two birdies.

Next Sunday we play our last official outing of the year in Rathaspeck. Hopefully we will have all our members out on our last day. Please be there by 8.45 a.m.

13. A total of 89 ladies took part in this competitio­n which was sponsored by McKenna Lawnmowers.
