‘Almost’ hits new heights for music in County Wexford
WHEN IT comes to music and original songwriting County Wexford has never been short of producing some of the country’s foremost artists.
Whether it’s hard rock and metal bands, new wave pop acts and singer-songwriters the county has a long history of unleashing some formidable acts on the contemporary music scene.
Karen Alice Dunbar, from Gorey, is one such artist and she has just released a single that has raised the bar for ‘ local’ acts in terms of its commercial appeal and professional sound.
Anyone familiar with Dunbar’s songs or those who have been lucky enough to see her perform live will no doubt be aware of what a prodigious talent she is in terms of her songwriting ability.
However, her new track, ‘Almost’, is an absolute stunner of a song.
Beginning with a gentle piano pattern the lyrics immediately let the listener know that this is a very personal song for the artist: ‘I can barely bring myself to write this, I felt love but nothing’s ever been like this’.
From the start the sincerity and authenticity of the track is obvious.
The song will go down a storm with fans of The Chicks
[formerly known as the Dixie Chicks] and would comfortably sit beside anything released by the Texan superstars.
The production is fantastic, courtesy of the supremely talented Brendan Carthy, from Orchard Studios in Enniscorthy, while the track was mastered by Ivan Jackman.
Dunbar is blessed with a formidable voice and the arrangement of the song, with plenty of backing vocals and harmonisation, allows her to showcase her vocal dexterity in exemplary fashion.
The song is set to a mid-tempo beat and if this doesn’t become a smash hit single it won’t have anything to do with its quality. It’s a fantastic track and now available to download from all major online platforms.
