CE/FÁS SCHEME

Contrary to popular belief, the CE scheme, or its predecessor Fás, is not administered by Social Welfare, or any statuary agency and is not a divine right for the village. Clonroche had no CE/Fás scheme or workers – up to the late 90s. In 2000, 20 years ago, we formed a Sponsoring Company, together with our neighbouring villages, to bring the CE/Fás scheme into the Clonroche and the wider area serviced by this company.

This company is called ANCCR Area Development Ltd and based at Raheen. Clonroche Development Association was a founding member of this company together with Adamstown Dev Assoc, Newbawn Dev Assoc, Camross Hall Committee and Raheen Development Association. We were later joined

by Cushenstown. Clonroche Development Association CLG has three directors, guiding this company. The company hires the personnel, pays the wages, keeps the accounts, the administration being carried out from our Raheen office. All our CE workers are employed by this company.

The company also employs an overseer. Because of the large geographical area, local members direct CE personal in the village. All members/Directors of this company are unpaid and giving of their services for no financial reward. At this time, it might be appropriate to clarify the structure of this beneficial scheme to the residents of the village.

KEEPING OUR VILLAGE CLEAN

Besides the bottle bank, Clonroche Development Association CLG picks up 468 wheelie bins of litter from the village streets every year, plus 104 Wheelie Bins of drink cans. That’s a total of 572 wheelie bins of litter removed from village streets every year.

The association mow 285 acres of grass per year, trim 1.17 miles of hedging, spray 3.32 miles of footpaths, roads and parks.

They maintain two Parks, Ballymackessey Wood Walks and John’s Lane. Arrange and pick up seating in Clonroche Community Centre, maintain the approach roads to the village and keep them litter-free. Festive lighting for the village at Christmas time is also one of their projects, the annual Parish Party, and are now in the process of forming a Gardening Club, in association with Raheen Family Resource Centre.

A 10-meter Polytunnell will be installed in Clonroche Amenity Park shortly. We welcome and invite people interested in gardening, from within and outside the village, and people from our neighboring parishes, to take part. A gardening instructor will be attached to the Gardening Club for at least one year. Interested parties should contact any member of Clonroche Development Association CLG.
