Interest high as landmark town building up for auction

-

INTEREST is said to be high in one of the largest town centre properties to come on the market in recent years as it goes up for auction next week.

The former Bolacreen Restaurant at 33 Main Street, which sits on just under a quarter of an acre, will go up for auction on Friday, June 10, next with an advised minimum value of between €300,000 and €350,000.

Joint selling agents are Allen and Kenny, and Sherry FitzGerald O’Leary Kinsella. ‘ The building is in very poor condition but it’s a huge site,’ said James Kinsella of Sherry FitzGerald. ‘It comes to just under a quarter of an acre. It includes a three-storey building, a huge yard, and two bungalows which are in very poor condition.’

‘It’s the first decent sized property with commercial potential on the Main Street to come on the market in a long time,’ he added. ‘It has huge potential. It has limited frontage at the front, but it opens out very quickly as you go inside. It has the potential for a substantial commercial premises, and maybe further development on Pearse Street.’

‘We would hope it would attract good interest as it’s a rare opportunity on Main Street to get a decent site in the centre of Gorey,’ he continued. ‘It’s certainly the best site in the central business district.’

The property was owned by the late Bridie Kinsella who passed away in August 2003, at the age of 79. Her close friend, Kathleen Phillips, had right of residence in the property, and lived there until she passed away last year.

Originally from the townland of Bolacreen, Bridie Kinsella ran the Bolacreen restaurant from 1972 until the late 1990s. She was very well known with Gorey diners. After her passing, friends paid tribute to her saying she was ‘one great lady’ who always had an open door to those less fortunate.

Bridie dedicated her life to God and worked hard for the faith. A member of el Palmar de Troya Tridentine order, she had created her own chapel at her premises on Main Street, Gorey.

The property will be offered for sale by auctioneers James Kinsella and Lorcan Allen at3.30 p.m. on Friday, June 10, in The Loch gCarman Arms, Gorey.
