RIVERCHAPEL’S new BMX track was the centre of attention last week when 130 racers entertained some 400 spectators in Round 3 of the BMX National Series.

As well as the action on the track, there were also other attractions including Zorbing, ice cream, a mobile café, the Seal Rescue Centre volunteers, and Courtown Tidy Towns.

Speaking on the day, founder and secretary of Riverchapel BMX Club Ruth Murphy thanked all involved. She said that the BMX Club, in conjunction with Riverchapel Community Complex, was delighted to host the BMX National Series.

Their thanks went to Crawford Group Ireland and MGM Partnership for the planning and development of the track; to Wexford County Council and Wexford Local Development for funding and support for the complex and track; to Sports Active for funding the BMX bikes and equipment; and Capital Sports Ireland for its grant.

Wholehearted thanks also went to the supporters for their invaluable help; to the committees; TÚS workers; and volunteers for all the time and effort they put into making such a vision a reality.

‘Everyone has pulled together and made every effort to ensure that you, both the local and BMX communities, will enjoy racing here on our track here at Riverchapel BMX Club,’ said Ruth. ‘So many have worked hard until late in the evening to make this track look its best.’
